Alexander The Great Meets His Match
Get out of my sunlight. - Diogenes to Alexander The Great
When Alexander The Great, ruler of the known world , met Diogenes, Diogenes told Alexander to get out of his sunlight.
“If I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes.” - Alexander The Great
The story goes like this.
Alexander, having conquered much of the known world, visits Diogenes, who is lounging in the sun in a barrel (or large clay jar) in Corinth. Curious about the infamous philosopher, Alexander approaches and offers him anything he desires.
Diogenes, unimpressed by the powerful king, responds:
“Yes, stand out of my sunlight.” ☀️
Why This Is Legendary:
Diogenes’ Rejection of Power : He proves he needs nothing from the world’s most powerful man.
Alexander’s Admiration : Instead of being offended, Alexander is said to have remarked: “If I were not Alexander, I would be Diogenes.”
_ Ultimate Flex: While Alexander sought to rule the world, Diogenes had already mastered himself. As you’ll recall, Alexander drank himself to death after running out of lands to conquer._
